Just a few pictures to show correct timing for the Z20LEH engine (also applies to the Z20LET, Z20LEL and Z20LER engines).
With the timing marks lined up at TDC the camshaft pullies are locked in place using a camshaft locking tool prior to replacing the belt, when the new belt is fitted and during the tensioning procedure. When everything is correctly tensioned the locking tool is removed and the engine turned through 2 full revolutions, after which time the timing marks and belt tensioned is checked again:
Close up of inlet side timing marks correctly lined up:
Close up of exhaust side timing marks correctly lined up:
Bottom timing gear pulley timing marks lined up; note cut out in bottom pulley, rear cover and lower edge of block:
Correct belt tension (for a new belt) shown by the pointer aligned with the cut-out, checked after 2 full revolutions of the engine via crankshaft bottom pulley, and the timing markes checked again:
Note: This is not a fitting guide, simply images to illustrate correct timing of the engine. No responsibility is accepted for damage, loss, injury or general stupidness. If you are not sure on exactly what you are doing when it comes to cambelt replacement, leave the job to a professional who does.
