Philips X-tremeUltinon H7 LED gen2 Kit Review

Having decided on an LED headlight upgrade for the 996, I purchased a Philips X-tremeUltinon gen2 kit via upgradebulbs eBay shop (https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/upgradebulbs). Also available from the https://www.powerbulbs.com website. Their ebay shop was the best price I could find at the time, and the kit arrived quickly. LED kit prices seem to range from £25 to £200 and the chosen Philips kit is one of the more expensive kits on the market today at an RRP of £199.99 but with prices ranging between £119.99 and £149.99. But what is it like and is is worth the money?

The kit part number is 11972XUWX2. The outer packaging is very professional in its appearance and it is sturdy box containing:
2 x LED bulb assemblies.
2 x LED drivers
1 x allen key
Some cable ties
Fitting instructions.
The packaging states that these bulbs are not ECE approved for road use.

When you lift the lid off the box the two bronze coloured LED bulbs and heatsinks are presented on top of a black cardboard background insert. Carefully lifting up the cardboard insert reveals the two drivers underneath, along with a comprehensive instruction booklet, allen key and several cable ties.

The contents look very high quality and are well presented. The bulbs can be adjusted to ensure they can be correctly orientated. They have three securing grub screws where most cheaper kits only have one and have a degree scale marked on the front for easy alignment should it be required, something which most less expensive kits do not have. The heat sink is Philips Air Cool fan unit, powered directly from the driver unit which is removable to aid fitting.

The results are excellent and beyond all expectations. The light output is stunning. A bright, crisp pure white light. Quoted by Philips at 5800K. Much much better and brighter than the original 150% brighter halogen bulbs. The road ahead is far better illuminated. The bulbs cannot be seen from the front due to the projector lenses so are very stealth like in their appearance and the output light looks very OE; as if it were factory fit. It does not look out of the ordinary or out of place in any way whatsoever.

These bulbs really do set the car off and give it a far more modern and fresh look at night, much more in keeping with a 911.
This kit is well worth the outlay especially if, according to Philips, they last the expected 12 years.
